day 56. skiing. sunday river. 2/8.

the whole mountain. it was cold and windy and everything from spruce to the outback was very windblown and icy. there was again a rumor of a fatality, this time on oz and this time it is basically confirmed (the other person from white heat earlier in the season was still in a coma last i heard). that always freaks me out. i know people die in car accidents every day but death by skiing just always seems so unfortunate. i consider myself extremely careful on the slopes. never even been hurt. knock on wood. anyway, i was pleasantly surprised to find that by the time i made it back to barker not only had the wind died down, but there was actually snow on that side of the mountain. it turned out to be a very nice afternoon of skiing. i saw kasmira on the race course and she seemed to have bounced back from the disappointment of last weeks race.
